Capable, But Clueless?

Have you ever been in a phase in life when you thought you had zero clarity, zero direction of what you wanted to do next?

You know you're mentally and physically capable of achieving great things.

But what exactly are you working toward? No idea.

I’ve been there. More than once.

And when you’re in it, it’s a weird kind of restless paralysis.

The Two Approaches I’ve Tried

I’ve tried two very different strategies at different points in my life:

1. Get still.

Get still. Get absolutely still. Do nothing. Get so still that you hear your own thoughts and hope to find your clarity from within you.

Spoiler: didn't work for me. But feel free to give it a shot.

It does help with subsiding some of the anxiety if you do have the luxury to truly take a break, but did not bring much clarity.

2. Move.

Do something. Do anything. Do the first thing that comes to your mind.

Then the 2nd thing. Then the 3rd thing.

Stop judging your ideas, for this phase. Stop worrying about outcomes. Stop thinking about anything and everything except the actions that you can take today, just to move.

Do something, just for the sake of doing it. Keep doing anything & everything that comes to mind.

The key is to act on inspired thought. Sometimes in moments of confusion though, it may be hard to pinpoint which of your ideas will do better. Hence, it is important to act away on your thoughts and keep clearing the 'idea backlog'.

Once you clear out the old idea backlog by acting on them, you'll get new ideas, better ideas. Because if not, the old ideas keep circulating in your head - you neither act on them, nor are able to think of better ideas.

What I Realised About Clarity

We wait for clarity like it’s going to arrive as a fully formed message in our inbox. But it doesn’t. Clarity doesn’t find you, or just appear. You have to find it.

Clarity is something you build, not something you receive.

You only find it when you’re already in motion. Even when you’re unsure. Even when your thoughts are messy.

The truth is: action creates energy. And energy clears the fog.

Read this somewhere - 'Momentum finds those who are already in motion'.
