That One Thing You Keep Thinking About (But Still Haven’t Done)

We all have that one thing.
The thing we quietly think about after we’ve shut the world out and hit the bed. The thing that keeps showing up in our thoughts — in the pauses, in the boredom, in the in-between moments. The idea. The project. The shift. The thing we say we want, but somehow… just never get around to.
If you're being honest with yourself, has this “thing” been in your mind for a few months? A year? More?
And what has that done to your motivation?
The Cost of Carrying Unlived Ideas
The problem with circling the same thought again and again — without action — is that it slowly starts to drain you.
You feel like you’re not moving. You start doubting your ability to follow through. You think about it too much, and do too little, and then start telling yourself maybe you’re just not built for it.
And the worst part? You can’t even enjoy the present — because your brain is constantly hanging onto this unresolved goal in the background.
So What Do You Do With It?
You’ve got two honest paths.
Option 1:
Call it. Say:
“I’ve been thinking about this for years, and maybe… I’m not going to do it.”
Let it go. Delete the folder. Cross it off the mental list. Stop carrying the guilt of not doing something you were never actually committed to doing.
You’ll be amazed at how much energy that frees up.
Option 2:
Take one step. Not a dramatic leap. Not a perfectly structured 12-week plan. Just one small, quiet step in that direction.
Because even starting is enough to shift your energy. Even an experiment can give you clarity.
But Then Comes The Fear
“What if I start and fail?” “What if I can’t figure it all out?” “What if people see me try… and then stop midway?”
Let’s play that out.
Have you ever seen someone start something and not follow through? Be honest — what did you think?
You might’ve thought:
“Damn, they actually tried. Respect.” Or: “Not sure what they’re doing…” and then 10 seconds later — moved on with your day.
Because that’s what people do. They move on.
And yet — we let these passing thoughts of others control life-changing decisions for ourselves.
Why?
The Question You Need to Ask Yourself
If this “thing” has stayed with you for this long, it’s clearly not nothing. So now the question becomes:
Is it worth doing something about? Or are you going to keep carrying it around, hoping one day the perfect time will magically appear?
Because that perfect time? It rarely does.
But the right question, the right step — that can start today.
